Former Elsworth inmate to stud in Victoria

HELENE Mascot, who won the 2007 FeildenStakes when trained as Salford Mill by David Elsworth, has been retired to stand at Crown Valley Lodge in Victoria, Australia.

The seven-year-0ld son of Peintre Celebre won two races and ran sixth to Authorized in the 2007 Derby for Elsworth before his sale to Hong Kong. Under the name Helene Mascot, he made an immediate impact for Tony Cruz, winning the Group 1 Hong Kong Classic Mile on his Hong Kong debut.

Helene Mascot was also later successful in the Group 1 Hong Kong Derby.

In all, he won or was placed in eight of 15 starts.

Bred in Ireland by Mrs H D McCalmont, Helene Mascot is out of the stakes-placed Kahyasi mare Razana and a half-brother to the Listed-placed Ovambo. Further back, it is the Aga Khan family of Irish 2,000 Guineas runner-up Rayeni.

Helene Mascot is standing for A$6,600.
