Stormy Atlantic makes mark with Get Stormy

GET STORMY was an all-the-way winner of the Grade 1 Maker's Mark Mile Stakes at Keeneland on Friday.

The Tom Bush-trained five-year-old entire held off runner-up Workin For Hops (by City Zip) by two and three-quarter lengths to register his seventh stakes victory but first at the highest level.

Get Stormy had won the Grade 3 Bryan Station at three and was fourth in last year's Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile in his previous starts at Keeneland.

He is the third individual Grade 1 winner sired by Stormy Atlantic, after 2006 Hollywood Futurity winner Stormello and Puerto Rico's George Washington Stakes winner Storm Allied.

Stormy Atlantic is a 17-year-old son of Storm Cat and Santa Anita Oaks heroine Hail Atlantis, making him a half-brother to Atlantic Blue, the dam of Group/Grade 2 winners Atlando and Incanto Dream, and to Divine Dixie, the dam of Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes winner Bandini.

Hail Atlantis is a granddaughter of 1965 champion US juvenile filly Moccasin, who was herself a daughter of outstanding matriarch Rough Shod.

Stormy Atlantic stands at Hill ‘n' Dale Farms in Kentucky at a fee of $30,000 in 2011.

Get Stormy was bred by Mary Sullivan outof the Kiri's Clown mare Foolish Gal. He is one of just 15 foals of racing age produced by daughters of Sullivan's Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap winner Kiri's Clown, now a resident of the Old Friends thoroughbred retirement facility in Kentucky.
