Shocking takes the Melbourne Cup ridden by Corey Brown

Shocking gives Street Cry tenth Group 1 winner

SHOCKING took the Melbourne Cup at Flemington today to provide the Darley stallion Street Cry with a tenth Group 1 winner. The Mark Kavanagh-trained colt was sent off third-favourite, getting the better of Godolphin's own Crime Scene, under Kerrin McEvoy, in the final furlong.

The four-year-old's win further enhances the reputation of Street Cry, who will stand at $150,000 next year, making him the most expensive sire under Darley's US banner.

Shocking is out of the Danehill mare Maria Di Castiglia who was trained by Richard Hannon, for whom she had three starts as a two-year-old which included two second-placed efforts in Claiming company.

Another produce of Street Cry could enjoy big race success this weekend, as he is represented by the crack mare Zenyatta in the Breeders' Cup Classic. The unbeaten mare is trading at 4-1 second-favourite behind Rip Van Winkle, and will be chasing win number 14.
