Galileo to cover Makin's star sprinting mares

COOLMORE supersire Galileo will cover four members of Australian owner-breeder Paul Makin's blue-chip European broodmare band this season.

Group 1-winning sprinters Fleeting Spirit and Gilt Edge Girl, both bought privately by Makin's Paulyn Ltd breeding operation, are among that quartet.

July Cup heroine Fleeting Spirit, a daughter of Invincible Spirit, is due to produce her first foal, by Galileo, this month. Prix de l'Abbaye winner Gilt Edge Girl, a daughter of Monsieur Bond, produced her first foal, an Oasis Dream filly, on Friday.

Makin's other mares to be covered by Galileo are Gilt Edge Girl's dam Tahara, who was purchased for 180,000gns at Tattersalls in November and is in foal to Acclamation, and Authorized's dam Funsie, who is making a return visit as she has a Galileo foal in-utero.

Song, who topped the 2009 Tattersalls December breeding-stock sales when bought by Badgers Bloodstock on behalf of Makin for 1.7 million gns, will be covered this season by Dansili after being barren to Oasis Dream last year. Lady Karr, the dam of Mikhail Glinka and a sister to Sir Percy, will visit Oasis Dream.

Scenica, a Grade 1 winner in Argentina, and We Can Say It Now, a dual New Zealand Group 1-winning daughter of Makin's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Starcraft, will both visit Montjeu.

Paulyn Ltd has just launched a new website - paulynltd.com - with details of its mares, foals and horses in training.
