Makin's star sprinting mares scanned in foal

GROUP 1-winning sprint mares Fleeting Spirit and Gilt Edge Girl, both purchased privately last year by owner-breeder Paul Makin of Starcraft fame, havegot their broodmare careers off to the perfect start by being scanned in foal.

Fleeting Spirit has an early positive pregnancy to Europe’s champion sire Galileo.  A daughter of Invincible Spirit, Fleeting Spirit was trained by Jeremy Noseda to win five races, including the Flying Childers Stakes at two, the Temple Stakes at three and the July Cup at four.

She also notched Group 1 second-placings in the Cheveley Park Stakes, King’s Stand, Haydock Sprint Cup and Prix de l’Abbaye.

Gilt Edge Girl, meanwhile, has an early positive pregnancy to outstanding young Juddmonte sire Oasis Dream.

Clive Cox trained Gilt Edge Girl to win six races, signing off her career with victory in October’s Prix de l’Abbaye.

She is by Monsieur Bond and out of the Caerleon mare Tahara, making her a half-sister to Flying Childers winner Godfrey Street. Tahara is in turn a daughter of Moyglare Stud Stakes runner-up Tarwiya and a half-sister to the dams of Prix Morny winner Arcano and Chesham Stakes scorer Big Audio.
