George Washington's only offspring named

THE only produce of the quirky but talented George Washington has been named Date With Destiny.

Trained at Richard Hannon's Marlborough base, the two-year-old filly is expected to make her racecourse debut in May or June.

Assistant trainer Richard Hannon jr said: "She's a filly that attracts plenty of attention. We haven't done an awful lot with her, but what she has done looks promising. Hopefully she'll make a very nice horse. She will probably want 6f or 7f; she has a fair bit of speed.

"None of the jockeys have sat on her yet. She has done enough to show that she has an engine, how much of an engine we don't know yet."

George Washington won the 2,000 Guineas in 2006 and, after his stud career was aborted due to poor fertility, he was sent back into training with Date With Destiny his only offspring. He was fatally injured at the end of his four-year-old campaign in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Date With Destiny is out of the French mare Flawlessly, a maiden from 16 starts and a half-sister to the successful jumpssire Video Rock.
