Five per cent stake sale for Starspangledbanner
A FIVE per cent share in Starspangledbanner has been bought by Victoria breeder and TV personality Anthony Mithen.
The Melbourn-based sports commentator and radio presenter runs the Rosemont Stud and bought the share after it was made available by original owner Michelle Massey.
Starspangledbanner, winner of last season's Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes and July Cup, takes up stallion duties at Coolmore's Irish operation this month at a fee of €15,000 before returning to Australia for the southern hemisphere season.
Coolmore are reported to have paid around A$10 million (£6.2m/€7.3m) for a 95 per cent stake.. However, Massey – who had her share bought for her for just A$8,000 (£5,000/€5,800) – declined to relinquish her stake at the time.
