First winner for smart turf miler Silent Name

THE former Criquette Head-Maarek-trained Silent Name sired his first winner on Sunday when Silent Sue made all the running to score over 4 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Park.

Bred in Indiana by Swifty Farms, Silent Sue is out of the stakes-placed Tiffany Ice mare Cold Porridge and a half-sister to two stakes winners.

Silent Name was campaigned by Wertheimer et Frere, latterly in partnership with Stronach Stables, to win six of 23 starts. Successful in a pair of Listed races at three in France, he developed into a high-class turf and synthetic performer when switched to Bobby Frankel in the US, winning a pair of Grade 2 races.

The son of Sunday Silence, who is out of French Group 3 winner Danzigaway and from the immediate family of successful sire Gold Away, stood his first season at Adena Springs in Kentucky for $7,500. He later spent two seasons in Canada before switching to McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in New York, where he is standing this season for $5,000.
