Coquet becomes first stakes winner for Percy

DERBY winner Sir Percy joined the ranks of first-season sires with stakes winners to their credit when Coquet landed the Listed EBF 'Mount Nelson' Montrose Fillies Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Sir Percy is the sire of 11 winners in total including the Listed-placed Percy Jackson and David Elsworth's highly regarded Salford Art, who was a closing fourth in the Fillies Mile. The son of Mark Of Esteem, who was also successful in the 2005 Dewhurst Stakes, stood the 2011 season for £6,000.

Coquet's success caps a good week for her breeder Meon Valley Stud, whose colours were carried to victory on Wednesday by Izzi Top in the Group 3 Prix deFlore at Saint-Cloud.

Purchased for 30,000gns by Hughie Morrison at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale, Coquet is a half-sister to Midnight Oil, a dual winner over 1m4f for Luca Cumani this season. They are out of 1m2f winner One So Marvellous, a Nashwan sister to Juddmonte International winner One So Wonderful from the famous Meon Valley family of Milligram and One In A Million.

One So Marvellous has a yearling colt by New Approach who was sold to JohnFerguson for 120,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
