First stakes winner for Eclipse hero Notnowcato

SOPHOMORE sire Notnowcato was represented by his first stakes winner on Friday when his son Chil The Kite landed the Listed Prix du Ranelagh at Chantilly.

Chil The Kite, a three-year-old colt trained by Hughie Morrison for Hazel Lawrence and Graham Doyle, has won four races and was sixth when favourite for the Cambridgeshire handicap last time out.

Notnowcato, a son of Inchinor and Galtres Stakes winner Rambling Rose, graduated from handicaps to land three Group 1 races - the International Stakes, the Tattersalls Gold Cup and the Eclipse.

He stands at Stanley House Stud and is responsible for one other stakes performer: Ballymacoll Stakes runner-up Miss Cato, who finished fourth in the Grade 1 American Oaks in July.

Chil The Kite was bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud and Pigeon House Stud out of the unplaced Lion Cavern mare Copy-Cat.

He is the mare's second stakes winner of 2012, after his half-brother Pastoral Player (Pastoral Pursuits) won the Group 3 John of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock in June.

Copy-Cat, a half-sister to high-class sprinter Averti, has produced six winners from six runners also including Copywriter, third in the Hong Kong Classic Mile after being sold and renamed Kings Falcon.

A Bahamian Bounty colt out of Copy-Cat comes under the hammer at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale next week.
