First runner a winner for Classic hero Big Brown

BIG Brown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes hero of 2008, made the perfect start to his stud career last Friday when Ruby Brown won a 5f maiden by three lengths at Kazan in Russia.

The filly, trained by Marat Kozhomzharov on behalf of Volgogradskiy Stud Farm, is the first runner for her sire, who stands at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky.

Bred by Coffee Pot Stables and the Big Brown Syndicate, Ruby Brown is out of minor American winner Truely Ruby, a Red Ransom half-sister to Mick Channon's Sun Chariot Stakes heroine Majestic Roi. She was bought by Stella Prima LLC for $15,000 at the Keeneland September sale.

"We're thrilled about Big Brown's first runner being a winner, and we're hearing exciting updates about the Big Browns in training, some of which are coming up to their first start in the coming weeks," said Three Chimneys president Case Clay

Big Brown was the dominant colt of his generation, recording wide-margin victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes for trainer Rick Dutrow. He was also successful in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational and Grade 1 Florida Derby.

Big Brown's first crop of two-year-olds were bred off a fee of $65,000. The son of Boundary stood the past season for $35,000.
