First Group 1 winner for former shuttler Reset

FORMER Darley reverse shuttler Reset's first ever winner became his first Group 1 winner when three-year-old Rebel Raider won the 1m4½f Victoria Derby on Saturday.

The Leon MacDonald-trained Rebel Raider defied odds of 100-1 to beat odds-on favourite Whobegotyou, a gelding by Street Cry, by two and a half lengths. Claire Lindop, the colt's rider, became the first female jockey to land the Flemington race.

Bred by Toorkat Park Stud, Rebel Raider is out of the Group 1-placed Dehere mare Picholine.

Reset stood at Dalham Hall Stud in 2005 and 2006, at a fee of £7,000. His first northern-hemisphere crop are now two-year-olds, and he has been represented by five individual winners, including Listed scorer Saxford and Listed-placed Wave Aside.

Other siresrepresented by Group 1 winners on the Victoria Derby card were Encosta De Lago, whose son Northern Meteor won the 6f Coolmore Stud Stakes, Danewin, whose gelded five-year-old son Theseo won the 1m2f  Crown Mackinnon Stakes, and Flying Spur, whose daughter Forensics won the 1m Myer Classic.
