First Group 1 winner
for Henrythenavigator

A full breeding analysis of all Sunday's Group races will appear in the results section of Monday's Racing Post

COOLMORE's Kentucky resident Henrythenavigator reached a notable landmark in his fledgling stud career on Sunday at the Curragh when Pedro The Great became his first Group 1 winner in the Phoenix Stakes. His victory came five years following the defeat of his sire by Saoirse Abu in the same race.

Henrythenavigator, the Anglo-Irish 2,000 Guineas winner of 2008, has sired six first-crop winners - all in Europe - including the Coventry Stakes runner-up Cristoforo Colombo and Listed-placed Infanta Branca. As a result, the son of Kingmambo currently lies in second on the European leading sires' list despite standing in Kentucky at Ashford Stud.

Pedro The Great was bred by Hascombe Stud and sold by the operation for 150,000gns to John Magnier at Tattersalls last October. He is one of the more regally-bred members of Henrythenavigator's first crop, being a half-brother to the 2005 2,000 Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand and to the dam of Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Power.

His dam, the Prestige Stakes winner Glatisant, is a Rainbow Quest daughter of the influential Hascombe and Valiant mare Dancing Rocks. She is also the granddam of this season's Criterion Stakes runner-up Edinburgh Knight.

Glatisant has a yearling filly by Medaglia d'Oro.

Pedro The Great's half-sister Pellinore is the dam of a Nayef filly catalogued as lot 44 in the upcoming Arqana August Sale.
