First foal for Darley Australia sire Denman

THE FIRST foal by Denman, Darley Australia's young sire, has arrived, reports breednet.com

Born on August 9, the colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed Beaucoup and Malaysian stakes-winner Hot Butterfly being the sixth foal of the former Gooree Stud-owned mare Laguna Lake.  She was bought for Canning Downs by Glenn Burrows Bloodstock for $130,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

A good-looking son by reigning champion sire Lonhro, Denman was a brilliant winner of the Group 1  Golden Rose in 2009 and went on to win Caufield's D'Urban Stakes (G2). The horse travelled to Europe for a run in the July Cup, but in the end was ruled out of the race instead returning to Australia to take up stud duties.

A stakes-winner in Sydney when trained by Gai Waterhouse, Laguna Lake is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Yes Boss.

"He’s the second foal she’s had for us and we’re really pleased with him,” said Canning Downs Stud Manager, Robert Petith to breednet.com. "He’s a lovely style of colt with a good shoulder and girth.”

In an amazing coincidence, Petith, who worked previously at Woodlands Stud,  foaled down Denman in 2006.

"He was a great foal and his dam Peach was an amazing producer, Denman was her 11th straight foal,” Petith recalled.

Denman covered 132 mares in his first season and stands at a fee of $38,500.
