First foal for Coolmore sire Rip Van Winkle
COOLMORE STUD welcomed the first foal by its champion three-year-old miler Rip Van Winkle on Monday evening when Miss Khaya, a daughter of Danehill Dancer out of the Group-winning Most Welcome mare Beneventa, foaled a bay filly.
Bred by Lady Laidlaw of Rothiemany, the filly is the second foal produced by her dam, following a yearling colt by another Coolmore resident in Montjeu.
Coolmore manager EddieFitzpatrick said: "We couldn't be happier with Rip Van Winkle's first foal, she is full of quality and overall a lovely, correct individual."
Rip Van Winkle, a son of the all conquering sire Galileo, won three Group 1 races: the Juddmonte International Stakes, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Sussex Stakes.
He covered 150 mares in his first season last year, 48 of whom were black-type performers.
He will command a fee of €17,500 in 2012.
