Fastnet Rock sires ninth Group 1 winner

FASTNET ROCK has sired his ninth Group 1 winner at Moonee Valley courtesy of the John O'Shea-trained Foxwedge.

The three-year-old turned the tables on top sprinters Hay List and Bufferingin the Group 1 MRC William Reid Stakes over 6f.

Foxwedge has been a model of consistency this season, finishing third behind Hay List in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap and second to Sepoy in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Foxwedge was bought by bloodstock agent James Harron for A$925,000 from the Luskin Park draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney. He has won five races form 12 starts, amassing prize-money in excess of A$930,000.

Foxwedge is the first stakes-winner for his dam Forest Native, a stakes-placed daughter of Forest Wildcat from the family of US Grade 3 winner Count the Time.

Forest Native has enjoyed an outstanding week having produced three winners in the space of seven days. Her two year-old daughter She's a Fox - full sister to Foxwedge -won on her debut at Canterbury and her four-year-old son Larch scored at Hamilton on Monday.

Luskin Park will offer the current yearling from Forest Native, another filly by Fastnet Rock at this year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Foxwedge is the second Group I winner by Fastnet Rock bred and sold by Luskin Park joining Rock Classic, winner of the Group I VRC Australian Guineas.

Earlier on the card Fastnet Rock's three-year-old daughter Empress Rock won the Group 2 Sportingbet Classic - making it a night to remember.
