Fastnet Rock filly rules Inglis Oaklands Sale

THE weanling section of the 2012 Inglis Great Southern Sale at Oaklands, Australia, came to a close on Wednesday with the top prices paid for fillies by leading sires Fastnet Rock and Encosta De Lago.

Fastnet Rock, with an unassailable lead in the 2011/12 Australian Sires Premiership, had his daughter from US stakes winner Chelsey's Image bring the topprice of A$145,000.

Bred and offered by Burnewang North Pastoral the filly was purchased by agent Steve Brem.

Another filly from a US stakes winner, by Encosta de Lago from Les Ry Leigh, brought the second highest price when sold to Belmont Bloodstock for A$130,000.

Also bred and offered by Burnewang North Pastoral the Encosta De Lago filly was sold in the supplementary section.

143 weanlings were traded, adding A$1,253,350 to the total sale gross which finished at A$2,564,050 for the weanling section of the four day Great Southern Sale.

"Quality sold well again today, with vendors who offered well-presented and good credentialed weanlings suitably rewarded in the ring, however it was tough for those who did not read the market well," Inglis Melbourne director Peter Heagney said.

"We had buyers from every state in Australia and good support from New Zealand, who were keento compete for the better lots."
