Raven's Pass yearlings on offer at F-T Saratoga

YEARLINGS from the first crop of Raven's Pass are among the 160 lots catalogued by Fasig-Tipton to its 2011 Saratoga Select Yearling Sale in New York on August 8 and 9.

The 2011 catalogue is significantly smaller than the 2010 renewal when 202 yearlings were entered. Of those 202, 164 were offered, with 118 selling for a total of $32,515,000 and average of $275,551 (-16 per cent). The median remained static at $250,000.

Proceedings were topped by an Elusive Quality colt out of inaugural Breeders' Cup Filly and Mary Sprint winner Maryfield, who was the only yearling to reach seven figures when knocked down for $1.2 million to Besilu Stables.

The 2009 renewal contained the 1,000 Guineas heroine Blue Bunting and among this year's stand-outs on paper are a Touch Gold brother to Santa Anita Oaks heroine Composure (19); a Curlin half-brother to Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Status (22); a Medaglia d'Orohalf-brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (56); the first foal out of champion Wait A While, a colt by Distorted Humor (68); and a Dixie Union half-sister to this year's Kentucky Oaks scorer Plum Pretty (157).

A colt and a filly from the first-crop of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass are also catalogued (lots 101 and 118) while entered from Lane's End is an Irish-bred colt by Galileo (115).

The 2011 auction will take place in Fasig-Tipton's Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion. Sessions will start each night at 7pm.
