Fasig-Tipton catalogues 494 horses for July sale

FASIG-TIPTON has published the catalogue for its Summer Selected Yearling Sale, the first North American yearling  auction of the year.

Some 494 horses have been accepted for the two-day sale, which will take place in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 20 and 21. The catalogue for last year's renewal contained 568 lots, with 305 sold for turnover of $28,151,000 (down 22.7 per cent on 2007) and at an average of $92,298.

The clearance rate at last year's sale was down 13.8 per cent on the 2007 renewal.

Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said: "We started this year with a goal to improve the overall quality of yearlings in the July Sale.

"Although our total nominations were up significantly this year, our standards for acceptance were higher and, accordingly, we have catalogued fewer yearlings."

The sale will begin with a new sire showcase, containing 213 yearlings. Among the first-crop yearling sires represented in the showcase are Bernardini, Artie Schiller, Henny Hughes, Flower Alley, Aragorn and Bandini.

Catalogues for the sale will be distributed by Fasig-Tipton from June 15, but can be viewed on the company's website now.
