Fasig-Tipton catalogues 237 juveniles for Calder
FASIG-Tipton has catalogued 237 juveniles for their prestigious Selected Two-year-oldsin Training Sale at Calder near Miami, Florida, on March 3. The catalogue is 13 per cent smaller than last year's edition.
The under-tack show is scheduled for Friday February 26. Consignors will have the option of either working their horses on the main track or turf course.
"The catalogue is a little smaller than some previous years," said Boyd Browning, president of Fasig-Tipton, "but that's not something which surprised us.Our Calder consignors reacted to the challenges posed by the market-place by being extremely selective in their purchases.
"This resulted in the 2010 catalogue being one of the strongest - both in pedigree and conformation - we have put together for a two-year-old in training sale."
The auction has long enjoyed a reputation as a source of high-profile transactions and classy graduates - dual Eclipse Champion Gio Ponti, Zensational and Hot Dixie Chick are just some of the sale's graduates in recent years.
But the 2009 renewal was not immune to the effects of the recession and suffered setbacks across-the-board; gross receipts fell 25.5 per cent to $26,151,000, the average dropped 31.5 per cent to $235,595 and the median declined 35 per cent to $150,000.
Among the stand-outs on paper in this year's catalogue is a Speightstown half-sister to Hot Dixie Chick, a Giant's Causeway half-sister to Henny Hughes, a Lion Heart half-brother to Kodiak Kowboy, a Distorted Humor half-brother to Bluegrass Cat and a Bernardini half-sister to Tapit.
