Fasig-Tipton catalogues 272 juveniles for Calder

FASIG-Tipton has catalogued 272 horses for their Calder Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in Miami, Florida on March3. There will be a single breeze on February 27.

"Buyers will find significant refinements at our 2009 Calder Sale," said Dan Pride, chief operating officer of Fasig-Tipton.

"Anabolic steroids are banned, new and more stringent medication policies are in place, as well as bans on certain types of horse-shoes and regulation of the use of whips in the under-tack show."

Last year's sale saw 102 two-year-olds sell for an aggregate of $35,100,000, an average of $344,118 and median of $230,000. While the average suffered only a minor drop of two per cent, the aggregate fell by 20 per cent and the median by eight per cent.

A Street Cry colt out of Sage Cat, later named Desert Party, topped last year's sale when selling for $2.1m to John Ferguson. The colt went on to land the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes and most recently won a conditions race at Nad Al Sheba.

This year's catalogue features two-year-olds by many of the leading sires including A P Indy, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Giant's Causeway, Seeking The Gold and Unbridled's Song.

Fasig-Tipton has also catalogued siblings to the likes of Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles, Grade 1-winning sprinter Yes It's True, dual Classic winner Afleet Alex, last season's high-class juvenile Munnings and the top-class pair Daaher and Spun Sugar.
