Bernardini: leading young sire is responsible for six entries to the Fasig-Tipton Florida Two-Year-Olds Sale at the Palm Meadows Training Centre
F-T unveil strong catalogue for Florida Sale
A COLT by Bernardini out of Oaks winner Casual Look is one of the highlights of 240 lots catalogued to the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale at the Palm Meadows Training Centre in Palm Beach County, Florida, on March 3.
The prestigious breeze-up, at which The Green Monkey sold for a record $16 million in 2006, was formerly staged at Calder racecourse in Florida.
Lots will begin arriving and training at Palm Meadows from February 15. The under tack show will be held from 10am on February 28 and selling will start from 11am on March 3.
"Fasig-Tipton has been conducting the premier sale of two-year-olds in South Florida for over fifty years," said Boyd Browning, president of Fasig-Tipton. "We are thrilled to begin this new phase at Palm Meadows, which many consider to be the finest training facility in North America."
"The track, the barns and sales area in this setting in Palm Beach County will enable us to showcase to their best advantage the quality two-year-olds we have put together for this catalogue. At Palm Meadows, our buyers will find most of our regular Florida consignors. It is their horses which have gone on as racehorses to make the reputation this sale now enjoys.
"We are very excited at the depth and quality of the group of individuals we will offer this year."
In addition to the colt out of Casual Look, catalogue highlights include an Unbridled's Song sister to Belmont Stakes runner-up Dunkirk, a Gulch brother to leading turf runner Court Vision and a Johannesburg half-sister to Grade 1 winner Gabby's Golden Gal.
Fewer horses offered at last year's renewal was a contributory factor to the 2010 aggregate dropping ten per cent to $23,430,000. However, the average increased by nine per cent to $257,473 while the top price, given by Stonestreet Stables for a Distorted Humor half-brother to young French sire Mr Sidney, rose from $1.6 million to $2.3 million.
