Fasig catalogues 338 lots for July yearling sale

FASIG-Tipton has catalogued 338 yearlings for its July Sale of selected yearlings in Kentucky on July 10, resulting in a catalogue which is almost 12 per cent greater than last year.

"Despite a smaller foal crop in 2011, we have been able to grow our yearling numbers meaningfully for this year," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning.

"In addition to more positive signs for the economy in general and for the Thoroughbred industry specifically, current graduates of The July Sale have been performing particularly well at the racetrack and in selected two-year-olds in training sales as pinhooks.

"A recent independent industry study shows this as the #1 sale for percentage of race-winning graduates and it is second by percentage only to our Saratoga sale as the leading source for grade 1 winners and stakes-winners."

The front cover of this year's catalogue features seven Grade 1 winners from 2011 and 2012. Recent Irish 2,000 Guineas fourth Daddy Long Legs is also a graduate of the Fasig-Tipton July Sale.

Among the highlights on paper from an European perspective is a Harlan's Holiday half-brother to Dee Stakes winner Tajaaweed and a Kitten's Joy colt out of Steaming Home, who won the Listed Go And Go Round Tower Stakes for Dermot Weld in 2001.

The catalogue also features yearlings from the first crops of Colonel John, Zensational and Thewayyouare.

Last year's sale saw 191 yearlings sell for a total of $13,349,000 and average of $69,890, down eight per cent from 2010. The sale was topped by a Harlan's Holiday colt who was sold by Crossroads Sales Agency to Stonestreet and George Bolton for $310,000.

Catalogues will be available from all Fasig-Tipton offices by June 11.
