First European
winner for Danroad

GROUP 2 winner Danroad was representedby his first northern hemisphere winner on Wednesday when Farmer Giles ran out a six-length winner of the 5f median auction maiden at Ripon.

It was the fourth start for the Michael Bell-trained colt, who had previously been placed on the three occasions. Kern/Lillingston Association purchased Farmer Giles for £46,000 at last year's DBS St Leger Sale.

Bred by the Hong Kong Breeders Club, Farmer Giles is the third foal out of Demeter, a placed daughter of Diesis and the Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Nicer.

Farmer Giles is one of only 32 first crop northern hemisphere two-year-olds by Danroad, who stands at Rathmuck Stud for €3,000.

While the Australian-bred son of Danehill enjoyed his finest moment when taking the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Trentham, he was also Group 1-placed as a two-year-old.

His first southern hemisphere runners have been quick to make an impact headed by Rockdale, who was successful in the Group 1 Racetree T J Smith Classic at Eagle Farm, and Down The Road, a Group 2 winner in New Zealand.
