Jazil colt tops soft OBS Fall Sale opener

THE opening session of the OBS Fall Mixed Sale in Ocala, Florida, failed to offer much hope for rest of theUS breeding stock sales season by returning major declines across-the-board on Monday.

The session, which was restricted to consignor preferred entries, saw 132 horses change hands for a total of $1,467,900, a decline of 24 per cent from last year. The average fell 39 per cent to $11,120 while the median fell 50 per cent to $6,000. The clearance rate was 60 per cent.

A colt foal from the first crop of Belmont Stakes winner Jazil topped the session when selling for $77,000 to Baccari Bloodstock.

Barry Menefee consigned the foal, who is out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Pine Dance.

The most expensive mare sold was Lakes Folly, a half-sister to German Group 3 winner Love Regardless who was knocked down to La Mulera Corp for $50,000. The daughter of Exploit is in foal to Birdstone.
