Exceed colt smashes
DBS breeze-up record

THE DBS Breeze-up sale reached new heights on Monday when David Redvers bid £300,000 for an Exceed And Excel colt out of Flying Childers Stakes heroine Wunders Dream.

His price smashed the previous ceiling of £245,000, set in 2006 when John O'Byrne purchased Crop Over (by Danzig).

Redvers had to fight off Dick O'Gorman for the colt, who was pinhooked by Bobby O'Ryan on behalf of vendor Tally-Ho Stud for £43,000at last year's DBS Premier Sale.

"He's been bought for Qatar Racing, which is Sheikh Fahad and his brothers, including Sheikh Hamad and Sheikh Suhaim, who are responsible for the QIPCO sponsorship," explained Redvers.

"Everything we have bought this year for them has been for Qatar Racing, including the top lot at Kempton and three at Newmarket.

"This colt ticked all the boxes and we hope he turns into a Royal Ascot two-year-old. They wanted to get involved because they so enjoyed themselves with Frederick Engels last year."

His sale capped an excellent week for Tony O'Callaghan's Tally-Ho Stud, which topped the Tattersalls Craven Sale with a 500,000gns son of Shamardal. The outfit sold multiple Group 1 winner Dream Ahead at this sale in 2010.
