ONE week after lifting the Golden Slipper Stakes with Sepoy, the powerful partnership of Darley and Peter Snowden were on the mark again, this time sending out Helmet to win the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes.

The result was a notable one for his breeder Darley in that they not only stand his sire Exceed And Excel but also Ad Valorem, sire of the runner-up Uate.

Helmet is the second Group 1 winner sired by Exceed And Excel following Blue Diamond Stakes scorer Reward For Effort. Of the 32 stakes winners sired by the son of Danehill, 18 have been bred in the southern hemisphere compared to 14 in Europe, the best of which is the 2008 Lowther Stakes winner Infamous Angel. Another representative, Nideeb, looks capable of travelling further up the ladderjudging by his recent win in the Group 3 Winter Derby.

Nideeb and Helmet are each bred on the same Exceed And Excel - In The Wings cross. Infamous Angel and Mrs Kipling are other successful adverts for the Exceed And Excel - Sadler's Wells nick.

Exceed And Excel stood the past southern hemisphere season for A$66,000, a significantly greater figure than the £12,000 he is advertised for at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket this season.

Helmet's dam, Accessories, was unraced for Saeed bin Suroor but she is developing into an important broodmare for Darley's Australian operation. Helmet is her second major winner following the Elusive Quality colt Bullbars, a Group 3 winner who recently ran second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas.

She hails from an excellent European family as a three-parts sister to French Group 2 winner Annaba and half-sister to the high-class French stayer Pozarica and Park Hill Stakes heroine Anna Of Saxony, herself the granddam of last season's Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Anna Salai. They are out of Anna Matrushka, a daughter of German champion Anna Paola who also features as the ancestress of Grade 1 winner Ave and champion Anna Monda.

Runner-up Uate is from the first Australian crop of Queen Anne Stakes winner Ad Valorem, who formerly stood at Coolmore in Ireland. A share in the son of Danzig was acquired by Darley when they acquired the Woodlands Stud operation in 2008.
