KLAMMER (b Exceed And Excel - Aymara, by Darshaan)

Breeder: Ermyn Lodge Stud in Britain

KLAMMER became his sire Exceed And Excel's second juvenile European Pattern race winner of 2010 with a last-gasp win in Saturday's John Smith's Extra Smooth Stakes, formerly the Horris Hill.

Klammer stayed on stoutly to just pip Dux Scholar (by Oasis Dream) by a nose, with long-time leader Elzaam (Redoute's Choice) a neck back in third.

Exceed And Excel, an Australian-bred son of Danehill who stands at Darley's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, has also made an impact on the juvenile scene in 2010 with Cornwallis Stakes winner Electric Waves.

Klammer, bred by Ermyn Lodge Stud in Epsom, is the first stakes performer produced by the winning Darshaan mare Aymara from six foals to have raced.

Aymara is out of Listed October Stakes winner Chipaya, a half-sister to the dam of high-class juvenile Winker Watson.

Klammer was purchased by his trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam for 16,000gns at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale.

Aymara also has a yearling filly by Byron, a filly foal by Piccolo and was covered by Piccolo again this spring.
