European sires in big South African sale

CAPE Thoroughbred Sales has released the catalogue for the second renewal of its Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The company isbilling the auction as the strongest yearling catalogue in the history of South African breeding, with a boutique
Book 1 section that takes place on January 26 and 27 and comprises 350 lots selected by South African vet John Kramer and Keeneland assistant director Tom Thornbury.

Alongside 34 lots from the penultimate crop of late South African multiple champion sire Jet Master and 41 by domestic champion juvenile sire Captain Al, are a selection of lots by European  sires.

They include lots:

22 - an Australian-bred Duke Of Marmalade colt from the family of Zabeel and Detroit

112 - an Australian-bred Teofilo colt from the family of Group 1 Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder

171 - an Australian-bred Holy Roman Emperor half-brother to Italian 1,000 Guineas winner and recent €360,000 broodmare buy Evading Tempete

257 - an Australian-bred Teofilo colt descended from
Group 1-placed Chaleyer

293 - an Autralian-bred Rock Of Gibraltar filly out of Group 3 scorer Spottswoode

The sale has been split into two parts as the company received 884 entries. Selling for Book 2 will take place from March 3-5 and the catalogue will be launched in January.
