Estimate heads strong day for Monsun sire line

THE Monsun sire line is in strong force at Goodwood with three runners in the Group 3 Lillie Langtry Stakes.

His son Shirocco has two representatives, while the great horse himself is represented by the Queen's Royal Ascot winner Estimate.

Gifted to the Queen by the Aga Khan, Estimate confirmed the view of many - not least based on her pedigree - that she would benefit from a step up in trip when winning the Queen's Vase at Ascot.

She is the fourth Group winner out of the Aga Khan's triple Listed scorer Ebaziya, whose son Enzeli won the 1999 Ascot Gold Cup. Ebaziya is also dam of  Irish Oaks and Prix Royal-Oak heroine Ebadiyla and Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Edabiya, who bucked her dam's trend by proving best at two.

She  is the dam of eight winners, six of whom attained black-type. Estimate is her last reported foal.

Monsun enjoyed a good Ascot, also siring  Tercentenary Stakes scorer Energizer, while the leading German stallion also featured as the damsire of Ascot Gold Cup hero Colour Vision.

Shirocco, the sire of Leger runner-up Brown Panther, is represented by first-crop runner Wild Coco as well as the year-younger Good Morning Star.

Owner-bred by Gestut Rottgen, Wildo Coco is from a very strong family of German stakes winners, among them second dam Wild Romance, a champion juvenile filly in that country. Good Morning Star, was bought for only 9,000gns this February when switching ownership from Rabbah Bloodstock to Marwan Koukash.
