Group 1 winner for Johan Cruyff

ESTEJO earned a deserved first Group 1 win at Capannelle on Sunday afternoon when successful in the Premio Roma.

In the process, the four-year-old colt became the highest-rated performer for his sire, Johan Cruyff, who was put down at Eliza Park Stud in Australia in October 2003.

The son of Danehill won the Group 2 Gallinule Stakes as a two-year-old for Aidan O'Brien and John Magnier, who would later race his brother Spartacus to Group 1 success.

He also ran fourth to Desert King in the Irish 2,000 Guineas before embarking on ahighly successful career in Hong Kong where he landed the Hong Kong Derby.

Despite only standing at stud for a short period of time, Johan Cruyff is also the sire of Johan's Troy, three times Group 1-placed in Australia, and the Italian Group 3 winner Scoubidou.

Bred in Germany by Gestut Schallern, Estejo is out the Listed-placed Este, and a half-brother to four winners over distances ranging from 6-10f.

Este is a half-sister to three stakes performers including Group 2 winner Erminius and Listed winner Ermbold.
