Eskendereya wins the Grade 1, $750,000 Wood Memorial on Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct

Top US colt Eskendereya has given Balmont's family a big boost

New Australian destination for Balmont

BALMONT, winner of the Gimcrack and Middle Park Stakes of 2003, will stand at Lynward Park Stud in Australia for 2010.

The son of Stravinsky stands at Tara Stud for the northern hemisphere season and had shuttled to Alwyn Park, Western Australia, for the past two seasons.

The winner of four races at two, all over 6f, including when beneficiary of Three Valleys' disqualification in the MiddlePark, Balmont failed to win in his three subsequent seasons but was placed at Group 1 level in the July Cup at three and the Golden Jubilee Stakes at four.

He was retired to Tara Stud in 2007 at a fee of €5,000.

Balmont's pedigree has been given a huge boost this year after the emergence of his half-brother Eskendereya as a potential champion in the US.

The Giant's Causeway colt was favourite for the Kentucky Derby before injury ruled him out.
