Eric extends uncanny Sandown family bias
VETERAN Eric's Charm defied a bad run of form to land Saturday's totesport Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown at the age of 13 – one year after his half-brother Monkerhostin won the same race at the same age.
Eric's Charm and Monkerhostin share a penchant for Sandown: Eric's Charm's record at the Esher track stands at three wins, four seconds and a third from ten starts, while Monkerhostin won two races there including the Bet365 Gold Cup (formerly the Whitbread) and finished placed twice.
The half-brothers were bred in France out of the Kaldoun mare Ladoun, a winner over 1m2f-1m7f on the Flat. Ladoun was a half-sister to Listed-placed Guadanella from the further family of Grade 1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes winner Golden Apples and Park Hill Stakes winner Alexander Three D.
Eric's Charm is by the Nonoalco stallion Nikos, best known as the sire of top 2m chaser Master Minded. Monkerhostin is the best jumps performer by Kris stallion Shining Steel.
