Arqana August yearling sale catalogue published

AN early sign that another sales season is nearly upon us has arrived, with the publication of the catalogue for the first major European yearling auction of 2010.

Arqana has catalogued 480 yearlings for its August yearling sale in Deauville, which takes place from August 13 to 16.

The catalogue is slightly smaller than last year, when 502 horses were entered for the sale.

Last year's sale was remarkably buoyant, considering it took place during the worldwide economic crisis, with small increases in average and median figures.

Among the Group/Grade 1-performing mares with progeny on offer are Amonita, Choc Ice, Eliza, Lune D'Or, Porlezza and Myztic Lips.

Also catalogued are siblings and half-siblings to recent Coronation Stakes heroine Lillie Lantry and leading young sire Shamardal, as well as to Group 1 scorers Celimene, Folk Opera, Le Havre and Silver Frost.

County Kildare operation Moyglare Stud - famous as the breeders of Group 1 winners such as Brief Truce, Casual Conquest and Refuse To Bend - will make its debut selling at the August yearling sale.

Arqana president Eric Hoyeau said: "This year again, the August sale catalogue achieves a subtle alchemy between quality and diversity as far as the represented sires, families and breeding operations are concerned.

"I think this balance tends to become a trademark of the Deauville market and is one key to this sale's success as buyers from all around the world find yearlings that suit their criteria while having a great time in Deauville."
