Encosta season
up for auction in
bushfire appeal

NOMINATIONS to five of Coolmore's Australian-based stallions will be put up for auction on Monday in aid of the Victorian bushfire tragedy, which is believed to have claimed more than 180 lives and destroyed over 400,000 hectares of land.

Headlining the auction is a nomination to last year's champion Australiansire Encosta De Lago, who stood the past season for A$302,500. Joining him on the list is the top-class sprinter Fastnet Rock and the Group 1-winning milers Haradasun,Royal Academy and Spinning World. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

"The human tragedy of these bushfires is simply horrific and, like many, we would like to make a contribution in any way we can," said Michael Kirwan, general manager of Coolmore Australia.

"The bloodstock industry has a great history of helping those in need and the hope is that, with the assistance of our friends, our clients and the media, these nominations will raise some significant money that can be put to good use by the Red Cross."

The auction will close on Monday February 23 and successful bidders are required to pay the nominations within 14 days after the end of the auction.
