Redoute's Choice colt tops Millions at A$925k

A SON of Redoute's Choice colt assumed top spot at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast during Saturday's 90-lot post-racing session when selling for A$925,000 (£533,692/€593,615) to agent Mark Pilkington.

The day's trading brought the cumulative total for four sessions to A$65,605,500 and the average to A$129,399 (£74,699/€83,086), just two per cent behind that registered at this stage of the sale last year. The clearance rate remains solid at 80 per cent for 507 yearlings sold.

The Redoute's Choice coltis the only yearling offered so far to come close to selling for seven figures; at the 2009 renewal of this sale, four lots changed hands for A$1m or more.

Offered by Strawberry Hill Stud, the colt is a half-brother to champion Australian two-year-old Hasna and from the further family of influential broodmare Fanfreluche.

South African trainer Charles Laird was active throughout the session, buying four yearlings including a A$700,000 (£403,875/€449,222) son of leading Australian second crop sire Fastnet Rock from the family of Sunline.

Laird also paid A$550,000 (£317,330/€352,960) for a son of Encosta De Lago from Baramul Stud.
