Redoute's Choice: the high-profile sire is a half-brother to Manhattan Rain

Manhattan Rain retired to Arrowfield Stud

MANHATTAN RAIN, second in the Cox Plate in October, has been retired to stand alongside his half-brother, Redoute's Choice, at Arrowfield Stud in Australia.

The son of Encosta De Lago ran his last race on Saturday when fifth as favourite in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill.

Manhattan Rain won at Group 1 level as a juvenile in the 7f Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick, and was Group 1-placed on four other occasions, including in the Golden Slipper Stakes at two and in the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate as a three-year-old.

He was bred by his owner, Muzaffar Yaseen, who is also the owner-breeder of Manhattan Rain's half-brother Redoute's Choice, the champion sire of Australia in 2006.

Their dam, Shantha's Choice by Canny Lad, also bred Group 1 winner Platinum Scissors, who like Redoute's Choice is by Danehill. Redoute's Choice currently stands at Arrowfield.

He was trained by Gai Waterhouse, and retires with a record of two wins from 11 starts and earnings of A$1.3 million.

John Messara, chairman of Arrowfield Stud said: "Manhattan Rain is a lightly raced Group 1 winner by a champion stallion out of a champion broodmare.

"His half-brother Redoute's Choice is an outstanding success at stud and we are delighted that Mr Yaseen has seen fit to place this colt's stud career in Arrowfield's care."
