Empowering and Joseph O'Brien win the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes Leopardstown 27.03.2011

Empowering: the Encosta De Lago filly has several classic options

Encosta De Lago filly empowered in trial

AN Irish-bred daughter of Encosta De Lago, Empowering, took the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial on Sunday. The filly, trained by Aidan O'Brien, was last seen winning a maiden on Dundalk's all-weather in December.

She could develop into a first British or Irish classic contender for her sire - she holds entries in the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks at Epsom and the Curragh.

The February foal is out of Blue Cloud, a Listed-winning half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Bigstone, by 2,000 Guineas and Derby hero Nashwan.

Empowering is Blue Cloud's best produce, and is a half-sister to Listed-placed Blue Angel and two other winners around a mile.

Encosta De Lago - who has built a strong reputation in Australia - is by Fairy King and has had particular success with sprinters. His top-rated performer is the multiple Hong Kong Group 1 winner Sacred Kingdom.
