Vinery expands stallion operation into New York

US BREEDING operation Vinery will expand its stallion business into New York in 2011 by taking over the management of Empire Stud, which will become Vinery New York.

Although Vinery's primary stallion operation is based in Kentucky, Vinery also operates Vinery Florida.

Vinery president Tom Ludt said: "We're excited about this expansion. Vinery stallions Posse and Repent were relocated to New York and they have been very well received by the New York breeders.

"We have seen benefits from operating in a regional market, and with casinosboosting the New York programme, we think that there will be more a lucrative market for New York-breds."

Ludt also confirmed that the new operation will be supported by a group of Vinery-owned mares that will be sent to be bred and foaled there. Jamie LaMonica, former President of Empire Stud, will continue to be involved with Vinery New York.

Alongside Posse and Repent, Empire Stud also stood Frost Giant, Maybry's Boy, Midas Eyes and Silver Wagon this year.
