Emperor continues to rule juvenile sires' list

THE Brian Meehan-trained Mehdi continued the current hot run of Holy Roman Emperor on Saturday when running out a narrow winner of the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Stakes at Newmarket.

He is the second juvenile of the season to provide Holy Roman Emperor with a big winning pot following Charles the Great, who was successful in last month's Weatherbys Super Sprint prior to his sale to Hong Kong. Consequently, the Coolmore stallion now sits approximately £60,000 ahead of Acclamation at the head of this year's leading two-year-olds sires' list by prize-money.

Other two-year-olds to represent Holy Roman Emperor at a high level this year include An Ghalanta and My Propeller, both of whom were successful at Listed level last Saturday.

Bred in Ireland by Douglas Taylor, Mehdi was purchased by Angie Loder for 50,000gns on behalf of Iraj Parvizi out of the Castlebridge Consignment at last year's Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.

He is a half-brother to Final Approach, winner of the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle at this year's Cheltenham Festival, and out of College Fund Girl, a half-sister to St Leger runner-up Highest and high-class miler Nayyir. The daughter of Kahyasi was a pricey 320,000gns purchase by MCR Bloodstock at the 2004 Tattersalls December Sale.
