Emperor colt rules selective ITS Sale

A SON of Holy Roman Emperor topped a selective ITS Yearling Sale in Milan on Thursday when selling for €72,000.

Scuderia Effevi, who purchased last year's €260,000 sale-topper, secured the colt, who is out of the winning Ali-Royal mare Goldendale and a half-brother to four winners. He was consigned by Allevemento Le Gi.

His sale marked the highlight of a day which saw 54 yearlings - 64 per cent of those offered - sell for a total of €748,000. The average fell 44 per cent to €13,851 while the median dropped by a third to €9,000.

Scuderia Effevi also went to €52,000 for a daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar from Razza del Velino. The filly, who is out of the winning Indian Ridge Double Fantasy, turned a fine profit for her connections, having cost Ambition Stud just €9,000 at the Goffs November Sale.

A number of European buyers were present including Thomas Whitehead of Powerstown Stud, who secured an Invincible Spirit half-sister to high-class juvenile Radiohead for €40,000, and Bobby O'Ryan.
