New Group winner for Kanmary dynasty

Prix Daphnis (Group 3), Longchamp, 1m1f, 3yo

EMERALD COMMANDER (c Pivotal - Brigitta by Sadler's Wells) Breeder: Grangecon Stud

GODOLPHIN'S Emerald Commander went some way to confirming the promise he showed during last year's successful juvenile season when landing this event by a half-a-length from the dead-heaters Wealthy and Mellon Martini.

The son of Pivotal - a 40,000gns Tattersalls yearling purchase by Willie Browne and a £72,000 DBS Breeze-Up purchase by Peter Doyle - is a half-brother to minor winner Albaraari and the fifth foal out of the regally-bred Brigitta.

A dual winner in France, Brigitta is a Sadler's Wells daughter of the outstanding producer Kanmary and therefore a sister Racing Post Trophy hero Commander Collins. She is also a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Lit De Justice, Derbythird Colonel Collins and Royal Lodge Stakes winner City Leader.

Little wonder then that Brigitta commanded 650,000gns from De Burgh/Equine at the 2002 Tattersalls December Sale.

Brigitta has a two-year-old filly by Dalakhani and a yearling filly by Invincible Spirit.

Prix Porte Maillot (Group 3), Longchamp, 7f, 3yo +

JOANNA (3 f High Chaparral - Secrete Marina by Mujadil) Breeder: Giovanni Faldutto

JOANNA's victory in the Prix Porte Maillot, which came at the expense of the older generation, proved that she is one of the leading fillies in training in France.

The Irish-bred is one of two winners out of Secreta Marina following the minor Italian scorer Aleph. Further back, it is the notable Wertheimer family of Arcangues and Aquarelliste.

Secrete Marina has a yearling colt by Ad Valorem, which has been catalogued to the SGA Selected Sale in September.
