Commander lives up
to family name

Emerald Commander, winner of today's Highclere Thoroughbred Racing EBF Maiden, is out of Brigitta, a sister to Racing Post Trophy winner Commander Collins, and a half-sister to 2,000 Guineas third Colonel Collins, Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Lit De Justice and Racing Post Trophy runner-up in the shape of City Leader. The dam of that clutch of black-type performers is Kanmary by Kenmare, who finished third in the Prix Robert Papin.

Emerald Commander, who was bred by Grangecon Stud, cost 40,000gns as as yearling when he was bought by Willie Browne. Peter Doyle bought the son of Pivotal  for £72,000 at the DBS Breeze-Up Sale.
