CRISTINA Pattino's Cara Fantasy came close to pulling off a notable double at Newmarket on Thursday when supplying the winner of the Craven Stakes and third in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes.

The mare's three-year-old, Elusive Pimpernel, ran out an extremely impressive winner of the Craven Stakes, which resulted in his 2,000 Guineas odds contracting to 6/1. The strapping son of Elusive Quality is the second foal out of Cara Fantasy following the Giant's Causeway colt Palavicini, who later ran third in the same Windflower Overseas Holdings colours to Sri Putra in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes. Both are trained by John Dunlop.

Cara Fantasy has a two-year-old filly by Mr Greeley and a yearling filly by Big Bad Bob, which is inbred to Pattino's good mare Gay Fantasy. The winning daughter of Sadler's Wells visited Invincible Spirit last year.

The Earl Of Sefton Stakes winner Sri Putra is the fourth foal out of Wendylina, an unraced In The Wings half-sister to Prix deDiane winner Caerlina. The son of Oasis Dream hails from the Aga Khan family of Karasi and Kartajana, and sold for 240,000gns to Charlie Gordon-Watson as a yearling.

Earlier on the card, Penny's Pearl became the first winner of the Racing Post Breeze-Up and Yearling Bonus when landing the opening 5f maiden.

Peter Doyle paid £30,000 for the daughter of Royal Applause at last month's Goffs Breeze-Up at Kempton on behalf of owners Malcolm and Penny Brown. Bred by Liam O'Neill in Ireland, she is out of the Listed-placed Pearl Venture and cost £15,000 as a yearling.
