Eclipse Award honours for Galileo's Cape Blanco
ON what was a productive night for European names, Galileo was represented by his fourth champion of 2011 when Cape Blanco was named the leading turf male at the Eclipse Awards in California on Monday.

The four-year-old swept through an unbeaten American campaign for Aidan O'Brien, winning the Man O'War Stakes, Arlington Million and Joe Hirsch Turf Invitational. He is standing this season at Ashford Stud in Kentucky for $17,500 and is the first by his sire to retire to stud in the US.
Bred by Jack Ronan and Des Vere Hunt Farm Co. in Ireland, Cape Blanco is out of the multiple 5f-winning Presidium mare Laurel Delight and a half-brother to the Grade 2-winning miler Mr O'Brien.
Stacelita, a daughter of Monsun, was crowned the leading turf female following a campaign for Chad Brown that included wins in the Beverly D Stakes and Flower Bowl Invitational. The six-year-old, who was bred in France by Jean-Pierre Dubois, was sold by Martin Schwartz to Teruya Yoshida in November and is booked to be covered by Smart Strike.
The European jumps industry also had cause to celebrate after Black Jack Blues, an Irish-bred son of Morristown Lattin Stud sire Definite Article, was named leading steeplechaser. The nine-year-old gelding was successful in the Grand National Hurdle at Far Hills in October.
Black Jack Blues was bred by the Hereford-based Brian Griffiths out of the Strong Gale mare Melody Maid, who ran second for Nicky Henderson in the Stakis Casinos Final Handicap Hurdle at the 1999 Cheltenham Festival.
A fiercely competitive Horse of the Year title was awarded to Havre De Grace, who emulated her sire, the 2005 winner Saint Liam. Fox Hill Farm's five-year-old defeated colts when successful in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga in 2011, complementing a season which also included wins in the Apple Blossom Handicap and Beldame Stakes for trainer Larry Jones.
She is from the only crop of Saint Liam, who died at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky in 2006.
