Azmeel: a bright prospect from the first crop of Azamour

Azamour colt makes 55,000gns at Tattersalls

AN AZAMOUR colt out of the dual Group 3 winner Eastern Appeal went for 55,000gns to Luke Barry at Tattersalls, making him the most expensive purchase of the December Foal sale so far. He was consigned by Glashare House Stud in Ireland. Azamour's first crop - now two-year-olds - include Derby entry Azmeel, winner of Newbury's Listed Washington Singer Stakes for John Gosden.

Eastern Appeal won over 6f and 1m at three during her first season to race, and took two Group 3s over 7f the following year. She started in the Group 2 Matron Stakes at odds of 40/1, but that proved to undervalue her chance as she passed the post in third, two lengths behind the winner Echelon. She was subsequently demoted to fourth for causing interference. This colt is her first foal.
