Early six-figure sale "sets the tone" at Tattersalls

TODAY'S flagship session of the December Foal Sale was little more than 10 minutes old when the bid board hit six figures for a first time on a day expected to see plenty of fireworks later on.

The first foal of 2007 German Oaks runner-up Dominante, sent over from Gestüt Etzean in Germany, was the early market leader when selling for 150,000gns. The week's first representative of Mastercraftsman's sire Danehill Dancer, she was bought by North Yorkshire-based agent Gill Richardson.

Earlier an eight-month-old Bahamian Bounty filly made her second appearance at Tattersalls this year. The racy bay had been offered at Park Paddocks in July with her in-foal mother Ripples Maid, a dual Listed winner, in a dispersal of the late Rex Mead's bloodstock interests.

The package made 132,000gns when bought by David Redvers in July and her foal recouped 75,000gns of that outlay this morning when selling to Authorized's owner Saleh Al Homaizi.

"She was a lovely strong filly and has been bought to race," said Tony Nerses, racing manager to Al Homaizi. "We got nine yearlings this year including a lovely colt by HurricaneRun."

Among the lots expected to make a splash later in the day is lot 933, a Medicean half-sister to the 2006 Derby runner-up Dragon Dancer and smart juvenile Rigidity.

The filly, who is offered by Kirsten Rausing from her St Simon Stud in Ireland, is from the superb family of Alborada, Albanova, Aussie Rules, Yesterday and Quarter Moon.

"This afternoon's session promises to have a really good trade," said Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff. "They are as good a group of foals as I remember seeing here for a long time with some fantastic pedigrees thrown into the mix as well.

"It will be very hard to buy the desirable foals but we'll give it a bash and Ithink the 150,000gns Danehill Dancer set the tone for what will happen later on."
