Annus mirabilis for Areion continues

Hamburger Meile (Group 3), Hamburg, 1m

EARL OF FIRE (5yo ch g Areion - Evry, by Torgos)

Breeder: Marlene Haller in Germany

GERMAN sire Areion's hot streak of form in 2010 continued on Saturday, with Earl Of Fire becoming the sire's fourth Pattern race winner of the year when scoring his second consecutive victory in Saturday's Group 3 Hamburger Meile in Germany.

Areion has really made a name for himself this year, also supplying German 1,000 Guineas heroine Kali, Diana Trial scorer Vanjura and Schwarzgold-Rennen winner Prakasa.

The stallion's first crop of two-year-olds hit the track in 2004 and he has supplied a constant stream of winners since then, but he has never sired more than two individual Group winners in one season until this year.

His ascent to fame is particularly timely, as his own sire, Big Shuffle, a champion stallion in Germany, died at the end of last year. He stands at Gestüt Evershorst at a fee of €6,000.

Earl Of Fire, a five-year-old gelding trained by Werner Baltromei, was bred in Germany by Marlene Haller out of the Torgos mareEvry, whose previous progeny includes Listed winner Evinado.

Evry also has a three-year-old filly by Areion named Eleona, and a two-year-old colt by the same sire, named Earl Of Dreams.

Runner-up in the Hamburger Meile was Sehrezad, a five-year-old son of Titus Livius, and third was Group 1-placed Win For Sure, by Stravinsky.
