Pricey yearling Urban Poet to stand at Gurteen

FORMER Keeneland September sale-topper and Group 3-placed Urban Poet has been bought by Donal Brazil to stand at his Gurteen Stud near Tullamore, County Offaly. The four-year-old
was purchased from Darley.

The son of Dynafomer is a half-brother to Pulpit, who stood for $60,000 at Claiborne Farm this year and whose nine Grade 1 winners include Tapit, a leading young sire in the US himself.

As a yearling, John Ferguson paid $2.9 million for the Urban Poet, and he went on to win twice, over 1m3f and 2m2f, and was third to Harbinger in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes.

His fee will be €1,500. Brazil said: “He has fantastic breeding and we’re hoping for big things from him. He’ll be dual-purpose. We always thought a son of Dynaformer would make a good National Hunt sire to stand in Ireland, and I believe he’s the first of his sons to stand here.

“There were some Americans interested in getting him and we
equalled what they offered. He’s a lovely big bay with a lovely temperament. He’s very correct. I don’t think a horse makes
$2.9 million and has too much wrong with him!”
