AMERICAIN (5yo b h Dynaformer - America, by Arazi)

Breeder: Wertheimer et Frere in France

AMERICAIN became a truly international winner of 'the race that stops a nation' with a two-and-three-quarter lengthdefeat of Maluckyday in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.

The five-year-old entire is trained in France by Alain de Royer-Dupre and was bred by Frenchmen the Wertheimer brothers; is by American sire Dynaformer and has a 'USA' suffix; and is owned by Australian interests.

Moreover, his Melbourne Cup raid was masterminded by Australian-born, Irish-based agent David Medbury with his Australian-based counterpart Robert Roulston.

Americain adds a new dimension to Dynaformer's already international profile.

The best North American runners by the 25-year-old son of Roberto, still in service at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky, include popular but ill-fated Kentucky Derby hero Barbaro and multiple Graded stakes winner Perfect Drift; he also has a strong record in Britain, having supplied Group 1 winners Lucarno, Rainbow View and White Moonstone; and in Germany he supplied Deutsches Derby scorer Wiener Walzer.

Americain is out of the Arazi mare America, winner of the Group 2 Prix de Malleret. America's other foals include stakes-placed pair Amarak and Spycrawler.

America - a FFr2.3m yearling buy - is a half-sister to Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris winner and Group 1-placed Majorien, and to Listed Hopeful Stakes scorer Rose Indien, grand-dam of last year's Superlative Stakes winner Silver Grecian.

America also has a German-bred two-year-old colt by Red Ransom, named Allemand, and a French-bred yearling filly by Monsun named Last Born.
